Why Locals Love Peacock Café

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Washington, DC’s Georgetown neighborhood, Peacock Café is a culinary gem that expertly marries the rich traditions of American, Italian, and Mediterranean cuisines with a distinctly fine dining flair. This restaurant doesn't simply serve meals—it crafts experiences that celebrate both classic and contemporary flavors, thoughtfully prepared for diverse dietary preferences including vegan and vegetarian options.

Step inside Peacock Café, and you’re immediately embraced by an atmosphere that effortlessly balances elegance with relaxed comfort. The dining space exudes an inviting warmth, perfect for anything from a leisurely weekend brunch to an intimate dinner. The attentive staff and refined attention to detail elevate every visit, making you feel both welcomed and well cared for.

The menu is a vibrant showcase of delicious diversity. Lunch lovers will appreciate the selection of sandwiches served until 5 PM, where every bite offers a pleasing blend of textures and flavors. The Humphrey Bogart, featuring Prosciutto di Parma, fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil, and olive oil, is a fresh and savory delight, complemented perfectly by house-made tortilla chips and wholesome coleslaw. For those craving a heartier option, the warmly comforting James Dean sandwich, with tender chicken breast, Muenster cheese, honey mustard, and crisp lettuce and tomato, is a standout choice.

Peacock Café’s evening offerings delve deeper into fine dining territory, featuring exquisite dinner menus like their thoughtfully curated Valentine’s Dinner Menu. The appetizer selections are as elegant as they are flavorful: the luxurious Lobster Bisque invites you with its creamy, delicate richness, while the Salmon prepared three ways—smoked, tartare, and topped with caviar—presents a sophisticated interplay of textures and tastes. The charcuterie board is an artisanal delight, boasting prosciutto, salami, creamy blue cheese, and manchego paired with olives, perfect for sharing or savoring solo.

Entrées continue to impress with options like the beautifully crafted Ribbon Pasta, which highlights the kitchen’s skill at blending fresh Italian influences with Mediterranean zest. Another crowd favorite is the Peacock Café Steak & Fries, offered on the weekly prix fixe menu, featuring a brandy peppercorn sauce that adds a playful kick and depth to the tender meat and perfectly crisp fries.

The café’s devotion to freshness and balance in flavor is palpable, a fact echoed by many patrons. Guest Aleksandra Dacko shared, “The flavors were fresh, well balanced, and beautifully presented,” capturing perfectly the essence of what makes Peacock Café a standout. Regulars like ‘Explorer’ appreciate the warm hospitality and consistently excellent brunch, singling out the scrambled eggs as a must-try warmth on weekend mornings.

Beyond the plate, the drink selection deserves special mention. Thoughtfully crafted cocktails bring a creative, refreshing complement to the menu. They enhance the experience without overshadowing the food, striking just the right balance as noted by another satisfied visitor, Olga Nemesh.

Whether you drop in for a casual midday sandwich, a leisurely weekend brunch, or a romantic evening meal, Peacock Café promises a dining experience that delights all senses. I had such a lovely experience at Café Peacock. I tried both the lobster salad and the peacock salad, and they were absolutely delicious. The flavors were fresh, well balanced, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere of the café made the meal even more enjoyable and relaxed yet elegant, with great attention to detail. It’s definitely a place I’ll be coming back to.

Peacock Café has always been my go to in Georgetown and I have lived in the area for the last 6 years. The owners are the kindest and all the staff as well. I especially love the brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Best scrambled eggs :) I promise whether you come for brunch, lunch, or dinner you will never be disappointed. Beautiful flowers at the bar, where I usually dine. Great atmosphere, too. Not too loud and well lit.

Whether you’re meeting friends, grabbing a casual dinner, or enjoying evening drinks, this place hits the right notes. The drink selection is excellent — thoughtfully crafted cocktails that are both flavorful and refreshing, with just the right balance of creativity and approachability. The food is equally impressive. Every dish we tried was delicious and well-executed, with fresh ingredients and thoughtful presentation. We stopped by Peacock Cafe this morning and had a great experience. We were asked if we had a reservation and were seated shortly after. We got the cheeseburger and the James Dean sandwich—both were really good. Nice spot overall with solid food and service

3 Minute walk up from M Street place is always busy which speaks of the good quality of food and restaurant overall. Had French toast, OJ and coffee. All fresh, nicely prepared and super delicious. Staff was attentive and very nice. Great experience.

If you are on a gluten free diet, this restaurant is a real treat. This is the ONLY restaurant I know of in the entire DC area that offers gluten free French toast!!! It is really yummy. It is gluten free cinnamon raison bread that they make into French toast. It is served with maple syrup that has few slices of bananas in it. It is always served warm. (Be sure to look for the bananas. If the French toast is served with sliced strawberries, that is the wheat based French toast.) This restaurant also has gluten free bread so most of their sandwiches can be made gluten free upon request. And they can make their eggs benedict gluten free by using their gluten free toast. It is a very pleasant experience dining here. I usually dine outside. They are located on a small street in Georgetown. Georgetown can be crowded but on this small street, it is never very busy. On a nice weather day, it is a pleasant experience to eat the gluten free French toast while enjoying the weather. The service is always good too. I enthusiastically recommend this restaurant. =========== July 2025 update: I had the Peacock omelet today. It was great! It was a nice mix of ham, cheese, onions. They also have gluten free desserts including a cheesecake that is GF because they use ground walnuts for the shell. Definitely worth visiting if you are on a gluten free diet. It really is great food with great service. I like sitting outside on a sunny day. It's very pleasant and not very loud. (They are on a quiet street.) It gets harder to find restaurants that are quiet enough that I can actually converse and not shout. At this restaurant, at least when I am outside, it's quiet enough I can converse. Highly recommend!! =========== Aug 2025 update: I had the flourless cheesecake. It was super!! This is the ONLY restaurant I know of in the entire DC area that has a cheesecake WITH a crust that is gluten free!! HOORAY! The crust is made of walnut. All I care is it tasted great and it definitely had no wheat. (I am fairly sensitive so I would have gotten sick if it had wheat.) I also had their corned beef hash with the gluten free bread. It's great food and great service. Highly recommended!

This was our first dinner at Peacock Cafe, but it won't be our last. We enjoyed every dish! We were early for the reservation, yet seated right away! We met one of the owners who circled the restaurant. Service was prompt, and our waiter answered our questions and knew the menu well! Drinks: We ordered the hot toddy and Rosewater cocktail. Flavors on both were perfect! Absolutely amazing! Appetizers: Steamed mussels and Dolme Both were amazing, but my husband and I thought the Dolme were the best. I tend to prefer cold dolmades, and these were warm and I loved them. The grape leaves were so tender and the balance of flavors with a slight char on the outside, absolutely amazing. Also, we recommend accepting the rolls they offer at the start. They were delicious! Not over done but so soft on the insides with the perfect crustiness on the outside. Main Course: I had the steak and fries with the peppercorn sauce and the husband had the rockfish. The steak was perfectly seasoned, and the sauce was delicious! The fries were the perfect side! My husband's rock fish was also amazing! Dessert: We ordered the Warm Apple Tart and the Poached Pear and Pistachio Ice Cream. Both were so delicious, but if I could only choose one I'd choose the Poached Pear and Pistachio Ice Cream! The cardamom was present without being overwhelming. The owner gave us small glasses of Sauternes during dessert. It was absolutely perfect. To top it off, the meals (excluding alcohol) were part of the regular pre fix menu they have in the evening! The base price is $56 (with a slight upcharge for specific dishes), but between the flavors, quality, service, and ambience, you would think you were at a much pricier meal. Not only that, the portions are perfect as well We will go back. And thank you to everyone at Peacock Cafe for a wonderful dinner.

We reserved a table for lunch and ordered The ‘Ghodsi’, two Salmon Cake Salads, and as a side, the Peacock Fries. All the dishes were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. For dessert, we chose the pear dessert, the walnut cake, and the cheesecake. They were all incredibly tasty! They prepared a special presentation for one of the desserts and kindly removed it from the check, as it was my birthday. I truly appreciated that thoughtful gesture. The service was attentive, professional, and very knowledgeable about the menu. They also provided excellent recommendations. The decor was contemporary and charming. Highly recommended!
